As I was looking through old photos for my recent birthday post, I was reminded that it’s been forever since I broke out the plastic kiddie pool. You know, the one I use for my dogs instead of actual children? That one.

I left it with my parents when we moved to SF and was fairly certain my mom had put it out on the sidewalk for someone else to enjoy as soon as we drove out of eyesight. She hates clutter, and Pickles hates getting wet.
I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find it still sitting in my parents’ basement. Although, I’ll admit, I did make Aaron go get it. I hate basements and the threat of spiders. No one else will have any issues, but the one time I go down to the basement, there’s guaranteed to be the biggest bug you’ve ever seen.
We set up the pool on our little porch yesterday afternoon, and since we didn’t have access to a garden hose, we just used buckets of water from the bathtub to fill it up. It was sort of a win-win, actually. I got a little workout, and the dogs had pleasantly warm pool water.

Honey jumped right in, but this was Olive’s first kiddie pool experience and she took a little longer to figure it out.

It was nothing a shiny new tennis ball couldn’t solve.

The only thing she refused to do was sit down in the water.

I tried and tried to make her sit…

But the only thing I got were some funny expressions.

Good enough for me.

How was your Sunday?

So funny! Ginger hates water. Kiddie pools, lakes, oceans, any type. We spent Sunday at the nearby lake and she just stands by the edge of the water panting. For a smart dog, she really doesn’t put two and two together that she’d be much cooler going in!
That’s funny about Ginger. Would she go after a toy if you threw one in? I think Olive will pretty much dive in anywhere as long as a tennis ball is involved. I’m curious to take her to a lake and see if she’ll actually swim.
Oh my goodness, your dogs are adorable! We haven’t tried a kiddie pool for Oto yet but he won’t sit down in the bathtub either. He will stand there and shiver but refuses to sit down in the warm water. If you take Olive to a lake, don’t try to carry her in – my husband tried that and got his stomach all ripped up when Oto frantically started trying to “swim.”
Good advice about the lake! That would not have occurred to me!
1) I LOVE those pink sneakers! So friggin cute.
2) I will never tire of looking at pictures of your pups…ever. I have a feeling they will help keep me sane in the crazy that is to come (aka my master’s program) by providing laughter + smiles.
3) I love your little outdoor space.
1) Thanks! They were a b-day gift from my parents! By far, the most comfortable sneakers I have owned – highly recommend the Nike Free 3.0!
2) I’m glad you enjoy the puppy photos! Sometimes when I’m really stressed, I just look at them and it puts things into perspective.
3) I would love to have a yard one day, but for now, it’s so nice to have a porch. Especially one that gets a decent amount of sun!
soooo cute! my mother-in-law asked me recently if i wanted a kiddie pool for our small pup, mina. now i reeeeally want one, if only to get some adorable photos
You should definitely get Mina a little pool! It’s so fun to watch them splash around, and you are pretty much guaranteed adorable photos.
This is adorable! I spent my Sunday drinking some beer and making a bunch of fried food with my girlfriends. I feel gross today, but it was worth it!
haha Nothing a salad and a smoothie can’t take care of today, right?
My Sunday was a little wild. Drove 8 hours back from a crazy last minute trip to Disneyland, threw together a little “nosh” and fell into bed. Such a wacky weekend! But amazingly fun.
That’s a lot of driving! Sounds like it was worth it though!
Ahhh that first picture is killing me! I love it! Our dogs always give us “the business end” when we are gonna take a pic. Or when we are sleeping. Or sitting. Basically they are all about showing us their butts. LOL.
hahaha I love that you call it “the business end”!
I can’t really take credit…the hubbs called has called it that for as long as I have known him and I love it so much that I stole it. Its such a nice way to put it! LOL.
My dog would not go in that water. He’s so weird about water. He’s a golden retriever, so you’d think it’d be in his DNA to like it. Nope.
It’s so funny. I wonder if my dogs like it because I’ve been giving them baths (with lots of treats) since they were only a few months old? I’m not really sure.
My guys love the water! I wish we could take them swimming more, but there aren’t many places around here. Plus, I feel weird just letting them go into a pond somewhere- afraid they might run off if they see a squirrel or something. I’ve taken them to my friends’ house who have a concrete pool (I think they specifically did that for their 2 labs!) and they are SO funny- they literally do cannonballs into the water.
I broke out the baby pool yesterday to give each of them a bath in the backyard. They were NOT fans of that, but were pretty good about it. It’s not so easy to bathe two 70 lb (strong!) dogs!
I would NOT trust Olive to swim without a leash – she goes nuts over squirrels! We recently started using an e-collar per her trainer’s recommendation and that helps a lot (especially when we use a 50 ft leash and work on commands), but we’re not ready for her to be completely off-leash. The trainer said Olive may not be ready for that kind of freedom until she’s 2!!
I love the wary look on Olive’s face!
Me too! She reminds me of a seal for some reason in that 5th picture. It cracks me up!
