Puggle Craziness {on Video}

I thought I would share a little glimpse into the soundtrack of my typical day. Although, to be fair, Barley was extra riled up because I had just given him a bath. Something about towel-drying the puggles makes them super insane. Does anyone else have dogs who do this? It’s one of my favorite things…until they decide to finish drying off in my bed. Happens every time.

And just because I find it hilarious, here’s a video of Aaron putting rubber booties on Barley for the first time the other week. Normally, we use something called Mushers to protect his paws when it snows, but the salt was too intense recently. We mysteriously only had three booties too. My guess is Honey is hoarding the other one somewhere because she loves them so much. Seriously. I need to get a video of her basically dancing down the sidewalks when she wears them. I think she’d actually prefer to wear them year-round because she’s such a princess.

In case anyone is re-thinking getting a puggle, they are actually mellow for most of the day. It’s just that when they’re not sleeping, they’re running laps and making really bizarre noises. It’s part of their charm.

Hi Amanda, Honey and Barley are both so cute and adorable! I think it’s a dog thing after they take a shower they all act like this, super-hyper. I’ve had many dogs during my life and they all did the same after a bath. I guess they feel refreshed and full of energy after a shower. Water is relaxing and energizing at the same time. Enjoy them, they’re so much fun, and thanks for sharing pics and videos of them.

I guess that explains why they also go nuts when they come inside from a walk in the rain. Too funny!

  2. Ahhh! Too. Much. Preciousness!

My sister has a puggle and it never fails – when you towel her off she goes absolutely nuts… the exact same way Barley did. She also comes in from walks sometimes at night and is fired up like that too! So fun to mess with them when they are like that 🙂

It is fun! haha Both Honey and Barley do that whenever they come inside from a walk, and especially if it’s raining. 🙂

Never a dull moment, ey? They’re such characters!

  5. Hi Amanda,

Thanks for sharing! WOW…all that energy! I felt breathless just watching Honey and Barley. I can’t imagine being able to keep up with them! More power to you and Aaron.

  6. Haha, I’m glad to know Oto isn’t the only one who completely freaks after a bath. I usually have to stand back and let him go crazy running from one end of the room to another. We tried to put booties on him when he was a puppy and he was doing the same weird walk, here is a video, it still makes me laugh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcF6XW7W93Y

I just love your emails! I always look forward to them. Thank you for sharing your life! It looks like so much fun xoxo

Awww, thank you for reading, Desiree! xo

  8. Oh man I love it. My dogs do the exact same things after a bath. They run like crazy!!

  9. I can’t even handle Barley’s look of confusion at those booties. So, so adorable.

  10. As soon as I saw that there was one with boots, I had to get Greg to watch the videos with me. His favorite thing in the world is dogs wearing boots. 🙂
And I love at the end of that one how Honey just struts by with her boots on, like it’s nothing. And how she’s like “don’t bother me” to little Barley in the others. The one of them “talking” reminded me of my guys when they were little. They used to go into a crate and “talk” all the time!
Mine don’t get riled up after a bath- they get scared that the evil blow dryer is next!

    1. Amanda says

You and Greg have to check out the video link Mai-Lis left of her dog wearing boots. It’s ridiculously funny!
I’ve never used the blow dryer on Honey or Barley, but Barley gets weird whenever I use it on my own hair, so I’m guessing he thinks it’s evil. Same goes for the vacuum – SO evil. haha

  11. That is hilarious! My pug goes crazy like that as well, each and every time she gets a bath. She is also afraid of the vacuum, whenever I turn it on she starts barking like mad and tries to attack it but then scoot/runs away super fast and starts all over again.

This was just too much cuteness! Your pups are just so adorable!

We fostered a beagle for a bit and she had a lot of the same behaviors- running around, jumping on and off the couch. Dogs are such great creatures. 🙂

    1. Amanda says

Thanks, Kristy! That’s so awesome that you foster dogs! I would love to be able to do that (maybe one day when I’m not renting), but knowing me, I wouldn’t be able to give them back and would be an even more crazy dog lady.
P.S. I’ve been loving your NYC posts. I’ve been wanting to plan a foodie trip there for a while and I’ll definitely be using your posts as a guide. So much incredible vegan food! 🙂

  13. omg i just saw this one too…in our house we call this a *rampage*…our puggle does it constantly when she gets over excited! i can’t even imaging having two! do they tire each other out?

    1. Amanda says

They do tire each other out, but they also make each other crazy! It’s a lot of fun having two.
