Why Pickles & Honey?

Three years ago, Pickles & Honey began as an idea to blog about my dog, Honey, and her puggle bff, Pickles (my parents’ dog). I had planned to post about their daily adventures and all things puppy…except I only got as far as registering the blogspot domain.

Best Friends Forever

At the time, I had no idea healthy living and food blogs even existed, but soon after, a co-worker showed me his friend’s blog. I was hooked from the first post I read and soon realized there was an entire niche of bloggers who shared my interests in cooking, eating, and working out.

Reading these blogs was an escape from my desk job and a huge source of inspiration.  And now that I’ve taken the plunge and left my 9-5, Pickles & Honey is a way for me to contribute my own passions to this community.

The entire focus of Pickles & Honey isn’t puggles (although, rest assured, they definitely make appearances), but the name stuck with me.

I feel like we may be blog soul mates, as I also own a puggle (named Hector) and love to bake. It’s not too weird to just that out there on the inter webs, is it?

Just found this and I can’t wait to read more!! Love the puggle and love the idea that you are doing what you love in life. I’m in the process of making some life changing decisions myself, and it’s comforting to know that I’m not the only person who wants to do a 360 after getting to “where you originally thought you wanted to be.”
Happy baking & happy trails to you!

Thanks, Emily! You are definitely not alone in wanting to make some big life changes! I think it’s totally normal to re-evaluate. Situations change, we change…and what we want out of life gets more clear over time. I think it’s awesome that you’re pursuing what makes you happy! I’m looking forward to checking out your blog! :)

Lol, I love how you named this tab! I did the exact same thing on my (new) blog! It’s called Salmagundi 2, and maybe you wonder why 2? — and what does “salmagundi” even mean — so I entitled the tab “Why 2?”.

Anyhow, thank’s for posting the cucumber and avocado soup recipe!

I was expecting to find recipes containing honey but after browsing a little more I realized this is a vegan cuisine blog. I like the recipes I saw even if they don’t have honey in them :)

Greetings Amanda:
I had the great fortune to stumble across your blog while on a mission to find a simple cucumber soup recipe. Yours sounds delish and I look forward to trying it soon. I’d also like to thank you for sharing your very inspiring story. Girl, I wish that I had your faith and wisdom when I was your age! Anyway, better late than never. I’m now in my 40th year and need to make some serious life changes that will improve my quality of life. Reading your story has given me the motivation to go for it and quit worrying too much about the sluggish economy. Wishing you continued success and happiness!

Thank you so much for this comment, Ceil. It’s extremely rewarding for me to know that my story resonated with you. And it’s never too late to make a change! It takes a lot just to acknowledge that your current situation isn’t working and decide to follow your passions, so I give you major props. I also know what you mean about the economy – that certainly doesn’t help. But I think there are usually steps you can take to move things in the right direction that don’t completely jeopardize your financial security. So much of it is just being open to switching things up and making the time for the things you enjoy. You WILL get there! :)
